Austin A. Nistler, age 83 a lifelong resident of Watkins, MN died on Sunday August 7, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday August 16, 2022 at the Church of St. Anthony in Watkins, MN. Following the lunch at church, there will be a social gathering at the Watkins Legion Club in honor of Austie.
Austie Alex ‘Snake’ Nistler, the son of Clem and Matilda (Nies) Nistler was born in Watkins, MN on January 31, 1939. He attended and graduated from St. Boniface School in Cold Spring, MN and served in the US Army reserves. He married Rosella Ruhland on August 28, 1965 in Union Hill, MN. He was a member of the Church of St. Anthony. Austie worked at Nistler Building and Supply, Watkins Creamery and Centra Sota Soil Service. He and Rosie managed the Watkins Legion Club for 25 years. Austie was part of the Watkins Fire Department, The Sportsman’s Club and the American Legion Post 453. Austie had a flair for storytelling, he loved going ‘up north’ hunting, fishing, cutting wood and driving around, especially with his German Shephard Stickers hanging out the window.
Austie is survived by his wife Rosie; children Kerry (Paul), Kurt (Amanda), Kim (Jeff) and Billy; grandchildren Sam (Aaron), Josh (Brittany) and Nathan; great grandchildren Nora and Zoi; siblings Norman (Delores), Bob, Willie (Joann), Marley (Marcie), Kathleen (Tootz) Tschumperlin; and many nieces, nephews and lot of great friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sibling Jerry Nistler.
